CESS’s Three-Year Dedication to Decentralized Storage Infrastructure with a Promising 2023 Ahead

Over the last two years, CESS has remained steadfast in its commitment to developing decentralized storage infrastructure. From winning first place at the Polkadot Hackathon to becoming a sponsor the following year, CESS has made a name for itself as an active global player, spanning from East Asia to Latin America, earning growing attention and recognition. As CESS enters 2023, it is poised to launch its long-awaited mainnet. This article reviews CESS’s remarkable progress in technology, ecosystem, and community development throughout the past two years. This article is to provide anyone who is new to the project with a comprehensive introduction to CESS.

What is CESS

CESS is a decentralized cloud storage network that offers a powerful decentralized full-stack solution specialized in high-frequency dynamic data storage in Web3. Its powerful and flexible cloud storage enables data monetization and free flow (sharing) of data value while protecting data privacy trustlessly, returning data autonomy to users. CESS’s innovative decentralized cloud storage technology makes it possible for Web3 to advocate the concept of “data-centricity, value monetization, and privacy protection.”

CESS Mechanism Detailed Explanation

CESS’s multi-layer network architecture consists of four layers: blockchain, distributed storage, distributed content distribution, and application support layer. Blockchain layer is responsible for managing all transactions and contracts. This layer incorporates a variety of functions, such as consensus algorithms, proof of storage, encryption systems, payment mechanisms, and incentives.

In designing the consensus mechanism and blockchain layer, CESS has implemented a rotating consensus node mechanism (R²S), which ensures both fairness and efficiency. Through the random selection of consensus nodes, the network is able to maintain a high level of security and consensus, while also avoiding the potential for mining monopoly.

CESS ensures the privacy and security of data at the content distribution and storage layer by implementing the multi-copy recovery storage proof (PoDR²) mechanism, which is also disaster recovery proof. Furthermore, CESS maximizes the utilization of scattered storage resources by “pooling” them together, effectively addressing the challenge of limited and dispersed storage resources.

CESS is the first decentralized cloud storage network natively designed to support large-scale commercial applications. It offers excellent storage performance, while also providing technical support to development teams, making it highly developer-friendly. CESS is compatible with WASM/EVM and provides modular SDKs and API services, simplifying the creation of applications that take full advantage of the network’s features, such as data storage, distribution, smart contracts, privacy protection, and data verification. Aside from supporting dApps, CESS also provides support for enterprise-level SDKs, enabling the delivery of decentralized storage services to enterprise-level applications.

Incentive Program

In 2022, CESS launched its testnet, which comprises three test sections: storage nodes (CESS-Bucket), consensus nodes (CESS-Consensus Node), and decentralized object storage (CESS-DeOSS). CESS has allocated tens of millions of mainnet tokens as rewards for users who actively participate in testing and building.

Participants who establish storage nodes are rewarded for providing storage space, while those who establish consensus nodes can earn rewards by contributing computing and bandwidth resources. Users can also experience the full process of Web3 decentralized storage through DeShare or conduct a variety of operations, such as uploading, downloading, and deleting files using DeOSS, which is specially designed for large files with high security and privacy.

In 2023, CESS is planning to introduce more community incentive programs to show its appreciation and recognition of users who contribute to the community.

Participated Event Review

From the Polkadot hackathon, the CESS Lab entered with FMD-CESS, a data trading platform built on the CESS cloud storage network. The successful deployment and construction of the CESS network enabled FMD-CESS to easily meet all of its data storage needs, paving the way for a future where the storage needs of various dApps across ecosystems can be met.

CESS launched the Pathfinder campaign and actively participated in online and in-person industry events to showcase its commitment to decentralized storage. CESS attended Singapore’s TOKEN2049 and events in Brazil centered around the Blockchain Rio Festival. CESS Chairman Nicholas Zaldastani spoke at Japan’s largest crypto conference, IVS Crypto, and CESS also organized “obCESSed in Vietnam” to invite Polkadot ecosystem projects to participate. This year, Nicholas also attend the Web2 cyber security seminar at Duke University

With a global and cross-industry presence, CESS is truly a leader in the storage track infrastructure, understanding the industry’s real needs and making strides in the construction of decentralized storage.

Tutorials

In 2019, CESS had an idea that it began researching and developing in 2020. Since then, it has undergone eight rounds of testing, starting with two rounds in 2021 and followed by six more in 2022. The test network version has progressed from v0.0.1 to the current v0.5.3. The current testing phase involves storage miners, consensus miners, and decentralized object storage services through DeOSS, with over 3600 storage nodes and nearly 20 consensus nodes participating.

For those interested in CESS, they can create their first CESS wallet by following the tutorial and become a storage miner to participate in the consensus. Additionally, the newly launched DeShare tool allows users to easily share images and videos on Damus in just two minutes, providing support for uploading, storing, sharing, and downloading in other applications.

Technical Progress

The development team has been focusing on the advancement of the blockchain network, CESS v0.6.0, while enhancing the decentralized object storage service (DeOSS). DeOSS is a powerful tool provided by CESS that enables users to store and retrieve large files using an HTTP interface with lightning-fast read and write speeds, high security, scalability, and privacy management. It caters to users with high-frequency dynamic data storage needs, including individuals and enterprises who can utilize DeOSS to store, manage, share, and trade data. The innovative DeOSS technology has made CESS the first network in the industry to support Web3 high-frequency dynamic data storage, while simultaneously fulfilling the commercial storage requirements for enterprise-level needs. DeOSS provides commercial-level large-scale performance support.

DeOSS is just one of the many innovative features of CESS. The past 12 months of monthly reports showcase the progress of each technology from its creation to launch and optimization. The CESS development team has been tirelessly working towards technological innovation and advancement in the field.
